Another Terdal Farm travelogue. I give each an alliterative name with places I'll visit near the beginning and end. The last one was: For the last one, I drove a Pathfinder, towing a boat from Houston on. Left it in Cayo and flew home frequent flier miles. For this one, I'm stopping in Belize for a few weeks on my way home from Costa Rica. If any of you are curious about my thoughts on similarities and differences between the two countries, chime in with a reply.
Day 1 June 21 The Mrs has started a new job and cannot take leave now. Despite it being a Saturday, she was at work at 6 am. She came home for an early lunch to drive me to the airport. While going for five weeks, I packed light as I was going to many places and needed to haul everything.
Had to make tough choices. As in, left my binoculars and telephoto lens behind. There, met up with my students who came in on a different flight. Together, we flew to San Jose. Most had never left the US. Immigration, customs is easy. Outside, we were met by the owner of Oklahoma Study Abroad, the company I chose to help make travel arrangements. For years, I did travel planning for student trips to Belize and also taught the class. I'm trying a division of labor: He took us to Costa Rica backpackers hostel http: Who would have thought a hostel would have a restaurant, bar and pool?
However, I was exhausted. Skipped bar and pool. We had a 4 am wake up call for a cross-country bus ride to Cahuita, on the Caribbean coast! I have not been to Cahuita since Breaker, I'm sure it has changed, but less so than, say, Puerto Viejo coast. Very few tourists come to Cahuita.
It is still a fishing and farming village. It does have a nice national park, though. Pretty ride over the mountains and down to the coast, at Limon, but I slept most of the way. Walked across town, about three blocks, to the seaside. Checked in at Spencer's Seaside Hotel no website, but this link has a telephone: We checked in, then dozed a bit: Afternoon rest by drterdal , on Flickr We then hiked to the national park.
